When Hardhit noticed Link was winning, it would summon lots of Stalfos knights. Link used his shield to block attacks and then went in and hit the beetle with arrows and his sword in quick succession. The shell would repair itself and Link would have to do the work all over again. Unfortunately, Hardhit recovered its shell when Link let off the attack. Once it was deep red and cracked, one more hit would win the battle. The more Link slashed at it, the more damaged the shell became, as it gradually changed color to red. It turns out that the key to defeating Hardhit Beetle was to repeatedly hit it with the weapon of Link's choice and change the color of its shell. How to defeat the Color Dungeon Boss, Hardhit Beetle: The Hardhit Beetle announced itself with some nonsense about being safe - no doubt it was proud of its hard shell "hat". He exited to the right.Īs Link entered, he knew he was facing the final boss of the dungeon. Link defeated them easily with his sword and a treasure chest appeared. Link entered a room with a bunch of pots and blocks that couldn't be pushed - and was attacked by red and blue slime enemies known in ancient texts as Zols. Room 16: The Room with the Red and Blue Blobs (Zols) He picked up the pot in the top left corner and stepped on the switch to open the doors. If he didn't like hopping, he could've grabbed a pot and tricked the springs to just walk across, too, but that seemed to defy the laws of physics. The flying one just needed a little convincing, but the boomerang did the trick. The hopping one was easily taken out - or even took itself out by falling into a hole.
Link encountered a hopping and a flying Bone Putter enemy. Room 15: The Room with the breakable floor, the two enemies, and the pot on the switch Once Dekudon was defeated, Link got a fairy he could use to replenish his health or catch in a bottle for later use. Link could slash at Dekudon (with an upgraded sword, that worked pretty well!), toss bombs, or even keep his distance and use his boomerang without wasting any items. Link used his feather to jump to avoid getting stunned and damaged, and attacked Dekudon afterwards with his favorite weapons. The Stone Hinox Dekudon attacked by doing a ground pound, which made boulders fall from the ceiling.
He didn't start the fight, but he finished it. Link didn't like being called a greedy fool by this odd-looking opponent. Room 14: The Room with the Dekudon Mini-Boss and Spikes He remembered the locked door to the north and quickly opened it. He went back through all the rooms he had already explored: right, down, left, down, down, left. Link now retraced his steps to get back to the locked door. Link opened the treasure chest at the top of the stairs and got the key he needed to finish the dungeon. Link pushed the top and bottom blocks to the left, which let him push the middle block up and open the passage. Room 6: The Room with the Red and Blue Armored Orbs and Colored Holes If he had had a small key, he could've gone to Room 14 - but he wanted to explore the eastern part of the dungeon first anyway so that he wouldn't have to go back later. Link didn't have a key yet, so he couldn't go north. A quick hit would undo the stunned foe (and stopped it from hopping about and breaking tiles). The annoying flying enemy, known as a Bone Putter, was easily taken out with the boomerang. Link was tempted to turn all the tiles the same color, but that would've been a real waste of time. There was also a locked door to the north and a trap door to the south. This room contained tiles that when Link jumped on them, changed color from green to yellow to red, after which they'd break completely. Room 5: The Room with the Breakable, Colorful Tiles and the Locked Door Link bombed the wall to the south/bottom of the first switch room and encountered a secret treasure! The entire room was filled with blue Rupees. He started with the headstone labeled 1 (first) in the code: Noticing that this was the only set of headstones that matched the numbers of the secret code from the book (5 numbers and directions), he got started, bravely ignoring the ghosts that tried to get in his way as he touched the tombstones. To open the secret passage into the Color Dungeon, Link headed to the bottom right set of headstones - a cluster of tomb stones in the southeast corner of the graveyard. The Cemetery was located north of Ukuku Prairie and was home to four sets of headstones, trees, and some undead inhabitants. Link headed to the Cemetery, the graveyard at the center of Koholint. Go to the spot highlighted on the map to find the entrance to the Color Dungeon below a tombstone. Where to Find and How to Open the Color Dungeon You just need the knowledge and can use it right away.
Note that it's not actually necessary to read the book and get the code. This code provides the instructions on how to open the color dungeon.
